Students used to hate the final assessments on their First Aid course – waiting outside a room to be called in to perform CPR (or do the recovery position, or deal with a bleed) in front of a complete stranger. You could feel the tension! The irony being by that stage the trainer (if they were good at their job) already knew that the students could perform these tasks.
Dr AJ delivered a requalification First Aid at Work (FAW) course at the Milton Keynes Safety Centre this week. His assessments are laid back and spread throughout the course. The final “assessments” are little scenarios designed not to pass or fail the students, but just to make them think about how they might apply first aid in the real world.
The students thought that AJ was being sarcastic when he said that people often find the final assessments the best bit of the course, but the feedback forms consistently show that this is the case. They love how much they learn by practising their skills, and they always have a laugh whilst doing them!
This week’s course was full (up to 12 for FAW), so if you have a group of learners that need training, want to feel confident at the end of the course but also enjoy the experience, get in touch to find out more about our discounted in-company rates.
